EFL Trophy

The EFL Trophy, officially known as the Papa John’s Trophy for sponsorship purposes, is a knockout football competition in England. It is contested by the 48 clubs from League One and League Two, the third and fourth tiers of English football, along with a selection of under-21 teams from Premier League and Championship clubs. The tournament was established to provide lower-league teams with the opportunity to compete for silverware and gain experience in knockout football. The competition features a series of rounds culminating in a final, with the winner being awarded the trophy and achieving a place in European competition, depending on the season’s regulations. The EFL Trophy serves not only as a competitive fixture but also aims to foster development and exposure for younger players.
