Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Players use rackets to hit a felt-covered rubber ball over a net and into the opponent’s court, aiming to score points by making the ball land in the designated areas of the court. The game is played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting gameplay and strategy.

The objective is to win points by hitting the ball in a way that the opponent cannot return it successfully. Points are accumulated to win games, which are then grouped to win sets, and ultimately, the match. The scoring system includes unique terminology such as “love,” “15,” “30,” “40,” and “deuce,” which dictate how points are counted. Tennis has a rich history and is governed internationally by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), with major professional tournaments including the Grand Slam events: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.
